Society of Monitoring and Evaluation Nepal (SOME Nepal) is a non-profit making organization, established on March 11, 2009. The organization has registered with the Government of Nepal in March 2010 under "Association Registration Act, 1978" as a non-governmental organization (NGO). This organization has formed with the strong motivation and initiatives of the Core/National/In-House Trainers developed by the NPC/JICA SMES Project. Now, the organaization has received strong support and involvement from the M&E professionals associated with academia, research institutes, freelancers, government of Nepal, I/NGOs, and other development agencies. SOME Nepal has its office in Kathmandu, which is located at Minbhavan, Kathmandu. An eleven-member working committee, elected by the general assembly, governs the organization.
SOME Nepal aims to become an established M&E Resource Center in Nepal. The organization realizes that M&E in Nepal is not strong, but many initiatives have taken in the past from the various agencies to make it stronger. Now, we strongly believe that some resources have developed in Nepal in terms of human, tools, policies, structures. However, still the resource are scattered and if we look at the system level those resources are insufficient and ineffective to realize changes. SOME Nepal envisages acting as a resource hub - by connecting the individuals working in this field in a network; by bridging the scattered policies, guidelines, tools and practices; by linking the field level practices, problems with the international practices and established concepts - so that the scattered resources can become a force of change.
SOME Nepal is committed to enhance the national capacity in the M&E area. We always believe and driven by the motto of "Work together for future by using best practices". As governed by our vision, we would like to establish togetherness of intellectuals, academia, experts, trainers, and even an official working in the remote district of Nepal and s/he is only responsible to fill-up the trimester progress reporting formats of the Government of Nepal.
Objectives of SOME Nepal are aligned with its vision and motto. The broad objective of SOME Nepal is to grow and act as a force to strengthen the M&E capacity at the national and sub-national level. Below are key specific objectives to achieve its broad objective:
